Ur right, they should have went after Michael Turner, or Mewelde Moore before all this went down, but Lovie always waits until it is too late

I really think Thomas Jones would of helped the Bears have a better chance of at least getting to the playoffs after the Super Bowl. But I was never a fan of Benson, I know its easy to say now but he never had the drive and heart of Jones. I think the analysts said it best when he was drafted "this guy is work horse and has played all four years at Texas but was he over used?" Yes he was over used and never got his legs or his wind back. What happens when you get tired you can't find the holes, you fumble, you make excuses. Benson was a crybaby and killed us in critical situations. I give credit to Jones he always worked hard and was the catalyst of the offense. He understood Chicago and Benson never did.

Finally after looking at the whole situation yes we should of released him sooner. But I don't get upset because if you look at it from Angelo's position you have Jones who wanted a shit load of money and Benson who was already paid and had a decent previous season plus he was younger. But of course as usual Chicagoans we learn everything the hard way examples Wilbur Marshall, Lou Brock, Elton Brand, Dominic Hasek, Greg Maddux, etc etc....

Either way we will be better off without him and I predict this year we go 11-5 Go Bears!!!!!

He shouldn't have LEFT sooner; just benched. I'm also happy that he left, but Thomas Jones isn't getting any younger, and the Bears O-line isn't good at all right now. Matt Forte is the favorite to start.

He is a bad of person as he is a football player... sad story if you ask me....

I am ticked I picked him once for fantasy football because all the decent running backs were already plucked so I got a bad draw. I thought maybe he would be decent but I was wrong. He has had many chances at some point personal personal responsiobility must play a part. So I think in the long run it will benefit the bears to get rid of him because I heard he wasn't liked in the locker room for his off the field actions. In the short run chicago will suffer there and the defense has declined a little too. I hope the bears have a good year but I don't think they will. Good luck all the same.

I doubt that Benson would have ever been a great back, but him being released is depressing. He was the 4th overall pick 3 years ago. It really upsets me that the Bears have wasted another 1st round pick. Salaam, Enis, McNown, Benson- how many losers do we need to draft?

screw the bears and lovie smith. they should of kept Thomas Jones and throw Benson in the cow shit!

the guy is smiling in his mug shot! the guy is a BUST!!!!

Cedric Benson, like Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, And Tim Couch gives new meaning to the word BUST

When they drafted him they could have drafted

Cadillac Williams
Demarcus Ware
Shawne Merriman

HECK they could have evn drafted PAC MAN

And don't forget the Cowboys drafted some kid out of the University of Minnesota that year named Marion Barber III in the 4th round instead of with the 4th overall pick

agree 100%. cedric benson had character issues from the start of his carreer at texas. he got caught with weed twice. the bears should have drafted cadalac williams or a quarter back. The bears should have cut him after his 36 day hold out.

Hey Buddy,
i am a Chicago native and a huge Bear fan, and i agree with many of you, Benson was a Bust. i am still upset that Jones was traded to New York, although i blame GM Jerry Angelo for drafting Benson, the bulk of the blame goes on Benson for not producing on the field, and getting himself onto trouble with the law.
